HIGHLIGHTS AND COURSE CONTENTS

Tremendous developments took place in Information Technology (IT) over the last decade. IT has almost become indispensable in every field of life. IT has also made its strong impact in various disciplines of civil engineering over the past few years. The proposed two week short term course `Advanced IT Applications to Civil Engineering' (AITACE) aims at deliberating on various applications of IT in different disciplines of civil engineering such as structural, water resources, environmental, transportation and geo-technical engineering. This course covers introduction to following topics and their applications to civil engineering fields.


          * Artificial Intelligence (AI)
          * Knowledge Based Expert Systems (KBES)
          * Fuzzy Logic (FL)
          * Case Based Reasoning (CBR)
          * Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)
          * Genetic Algorithms (GA)
          * Object Oriented Programming (OOP)
          * Parallel Processing
          * Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
          * Image Processing
          * Multimedia Applications
          * Web Applications
          * Virtual Reality (VR)
          * Robotics

Applications of some of these approaches in various disciplines of civil engineering will be presented.

Each Session will be followed by interactive sessions on the subject matter.

There will be demonstration of various IT based civil engineering applications, which may include demos of software by industry professionals

FACULTY

The teaching faculty constitutes experts from various Engineering disciplines of IIT Kharagpur and several guest speakers from other reputed places.

LECTURE NOTES

Arrangements are being made to deliver printed volumes of lecture notes to the participants before the start of the course.

ELIGIBILITY

Sponsored teachers of AICTE recognised Engineering Colleges and all practicing engineers from various private, public, Government organizations, and industries, scientists/engineers in R&D establishments are eligible to apply for participation.

REGITSTRATION AND TA/DA

No registration fee will be charged to the teachers of AICTE recognised Engineering Colleges, However, a caution fee of Rs. 200/- (Two hundred only) is to be paid along with the application form.
All Engineering College teachers are eligible to attend this programme. The participant coming from AICTE approved technical institutions will be paid TA/DA as per existing norms.

For a limited number of participants from AICTE recognised Engineering Colleges / Universities, the following rates of TA/DA are applicable.

TA: Sleeper class to and fro fare by the shortest route.
DA: Rs.125/- per day.

Participants from industry, Government Departments, have to pay Rs. 4500/- per candidate as registration fee, which is to be paid in advance on or before November 1, 2000.

MODE OF PAYMENT

All payments should be made by a crossed Demand Draft in favour of "CEP-STC, IIT, Kharagpur" payable at State Bank of India, Kharagpur.

BOARDING AND LODGING

Arrangements have been made to accommodate all the participants at the CEP guest house at IIT, Kharagpur. Number of beds are limited to 30 only. The rooms will be allotted to the participants on a first-come first-served basis.

For academicians (per head charges) - Twin sharing Rs. 30.00 and Single Rs. 50.00
For professionals (per head charges) - Twin sharing Rs. 50.00 and Single Rs. 80.00

VENUE FOR LECTURES

Lectures will be held in Seminar Hall of the Civil Engineering Department, IIT, Kharagpur.
