About the Course |
Soft
computing tools aim to exploit tolerance for imprecision, uncertainty and
partial truth to achieve tractability, robustness and low solution cost. The
soft computing tools include Fuzzy Computing, Neuro Computing, Evolutionary
Computing, Probabilistic Computing, Hybrid Methods, Case-based Reasoning,
Chaos Theory, etc. The
proposed One Week QIP short term course will cover- Introduction to soft
computing and related techniques, interactions between different soft computing techniques, and
application of soft computing tools in different branches of civil
engineering such as Structural engineering, Water resources engineering,
Transportation engineering, Environmental engineering, Geo-technical
engineering, and Construction management and automation. Each
lecture session will be followed by an interactive session on the subject
matter. There will
be demonstration of a few soft computing tools. |

Resource Persons |
The
teaching faculty will constitute experts from different disciplines of IIT
Kharagpur and guest speakers from
other reputed organizations. |

Venue for Lectures |
Seminar Hall of the Civil Engineering Department, IIT,
Kharagpur. |

Lecture Notes |
Printed volume of lecture notes will be made available to the
participants. |

Eligibility |
Teachers from AICTE recognized engineering
colleges and practicing engineers from private and government organizations,
scientists/ engineers from R&D establishments are eligible to apply for
participation. |

Registration Fee |
(a) Participants from AICTE recognized colleges No registration fee will be charged
from the teachers of AICTE recognized Engineering Colleges. However, a
caution fee of Rs. 500/-(Rupees five hundred only) is to be paid along with
the application form. The caution money is refundable only to (a) applicants who are not selected (b)
selected applicants who attend the course. The participants from AICTE colleges
will be paid TA/DA as per the following rates. TA:
Sleeper class to and fro fare by the shortest route. (Likely to be revised to AC 3-tier fare) DA:
Rs.125/- per day. (Likely to be revised.) (b) Participants from other organizations Participants from industry,
Government Departments etc., have to pay Rs. 4000/- per candidate as
registration fee, which is to be sent along with the application form. |

Mode of Payment |
All payments should be made by a crossed Demand Draft in favour
of “CEP-STC, IIT, Kharagpur” payable at Kharagpur. |

Boarding and Lodging |
Arrangements
will be made to accommodate all the participants in the CEP guest house on
twin sharing basis at IIT, Kharagpur.
The charges for accommodation per person (twin sharing basis) will be Rs.
60/- per day. |
